29.12.2006
Association of Women, village of Iskra, Sitovo Municipality, Silistra region

The project aimed at opening a center for training of women through which to improve the quality of life of the women living in the village. The project activities included providing more information for the women about their social role, health and employment possibilities; organising training in arts and computer literacy. We renovated and furnished a premise and bought the computer equipment and all the necessary materials for the art course.

The computer literacy course and the art course were taught by volunteers, members of the association. 10 women took part in the computer course and 10 more in the art course. During the art courses different objects were decorated like vases, flower pots, trays, etc. We were even asked by the people from the village to restore their long forgotten antiques. At the anniversary of the regional town, Silistra, we set an exhivition and sold most of our production. The money was used to bue more materials for the future work of the art group.

Three health lectures were organized during the project as well as a seminar on The role of women in governance”.

The newly opened center provides some basic administrative services for the people from the village – filling in application forms and declarations. It turned out that these services were timely and were used by the young and old people from the village.

Although the project has ended, the activities of the center are continuing. We have enough resources for a few months to continue our art classes. The women got used to coming to the center and to share their problems and new ideas. There has been a huge interest tour project from other municipalities intheregion. We are already planning a new project aimed at researching and preserving the traditional customs of the region. However the important result of the project was the new beginning which motivated the women’s participation in the community life.
