It was almost unbelievable for us that a chitalishte from a small village can succeed with its project. And we are also the first chitalishte on the territory of Vidin municipality, which has two computer configurations, a printer and Internet access! What e debut! We wish that your tulips grow in every little village and town and allow many Bulgarian children to have access to information and modern technology. 

In 2004 at the 75 anniversary of the chitalishte we had a guest from the USA – a Bulgarian immigrant - who said that after all these years he still remembered the chitalishte because of the first book he had read here. With this project we wish to be able to hear the same in the future that we have provided the first touch to computers and Internet to today’s children!

The main project activities include: preparing forms, applications, notices, complaints, etc, we offer library inquiries, daily newspapers, information on the new legislation, virtual library, access to internet and copying services. Mainly the elderly people in our village, and those from the neighbouring villages, use the last service, which saves them a trip to the town. The project has helped the Mayor’s office but it has mainly improved the work of the chitalishte. The services offered by the centre are used by people of different ages – from children to retired people.

The project brought a lot of positive changes in the life of the people in the village and of the chitalishte itself. Every day we are surrounded by children who want to use the Internet, sometimes for school projects, other times just for fun. The services we offer are free because of the financial situation of most of the people living in the village but also in order to show that the chitalishte is open to everyone.

For us the project has not finished! This month we celebrate a year since it started and we still enjoy the results and the changes it brought to our lives.
