Project: Development of a new social service “Еarly intervention” for children with special needs in the community

Karin Dom Foundation, Varna

Aim: The aim of the project is to develop a new social service “early intervention” in the community focused on the children with special needs and their families. It is based on providing support for families of babies and young children with disabilities by the members of an informal social network of people who have direct and indirect influence on the life of the mother, the family and the child.
Activities: The project is aimed at supporting the development of the social service “early intervention” by ten NGOs in Bulgaria through trainings, expert support and promoting the service. Qualified trainers on early intervention will support families to understand the disability and to develop their own capacity to apply positive intervention for their children. The new social service includes organizing mobile team of specialists who will help the consultants with evaluation and support for families with children with disabilities.
Target groups: The project is targeted at local communities and at representatives of ten NGOs in Bulgaria working with children with disabilities that will develop the new social service “early intervention”. In total some 20 representatives of NGOs will be trained, who will form teams, elaborate project proposals and initiate the service in the respective municipalities. Direct beneficiaries are children with disabilities aged 0 – 4, their parents and extended families (in total 150 people from 10 municipalities).
