European Day of Solidarity between Generations took place in Prisons on 4 May 2011

On the occasion of the European day of solidarity between generations (29 April) – day of communication, sharing and respect, Prison Fellowship Bulgaria and Chief Directorate "Execution of Judgement" joined the national campaign of Tulip Foundation. all the prisons within the country.

They organized together a national competition “Generations – images in the mirror” and a traveling exhibition of competition artworks in Prisoners from the whole country took part in the competition. The condition was the artworks to be in one of the following categories: 

  •  First category - Essay “My true meeting with a person from another generation” 

  • Second category – Short story - “The prison before 1989” or “The prison in ХХІ century” 

  • Third category - Fine arts 

  • Fourth category – Plastic arts 


The results of the competition were officially announced on 4 May 2011 at a special press conference in the Sofia prison. Mr. Angelov, Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Justice personally opened the exhibition and presented his positive statement towards such activities. 

The exhibition will continue until 10 May 2011 in the Sofia prison. It will be exposed in the Vratsa prison between 19 - 24 May 2011. Within the next three months the exhibition will be presented in all the prisons and if there is an interest it will be also exposed in front of the local public in cooperation with the municipalities. 

The artworks were evaluated by a commission with the following members: 
Prof. Klimentina Ivanova, Chair of the commission within the categories “essay” and “short story” 
Rumen Statkov, Chair of the commission within the categories “fine arts” and “plastic arts” 
Members: 
Maria Petkova, Director of Tulip Foundation 
Valentina Karaganova, Sector Director Metropolitan Directorate of Interior at the Chief Directorate "Execution of Judgement" 
Elena Yoncheva, Executive Director of Prison Fellowship Bulgaria
