Intergenerational Solidarity in Europe – Multistakeholder Dialogue

The 2025 Annual Conference of AGE Platform took place in mid-June in Leuven. It was designed to contribute to the EU Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness; discuss the common goals and issues that younger and older generations share; how older people contribute to our society on an equal footing with other generations to face current and future challenges; and finally, how intergenerational solidarity can be a way to tackle ageism. Different areas and points of view were covered such as the labour market, health and care services, housing, mobility, digitalisation, and climate change.

During the conference we listed to testimonies from groups of people from different generation on Bridging the Gap Between Generations; Addressing Shared Interests and Challenges Across Generations; Inspiring Intergenerational Initiatives etc.

Maria Petkova chaired the session on Intergenerational Solidarity as a Way to Combat Ageism with participants MEP Idoia Mendia, Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Spain and MEP Michał SZCZERBA, European People's Party, Poland; Alice Latta from ENTR'A GES; Claire Champeix from Eurocarers and Arnstein Aasve, Professor in Demography at Bocconi University and leader of the FutuRes project.
