Intergenerational Day of Older People – looking forward to the coming years

We marked the International Day of Older Persons 1 October together with our partners from the European Platform AGE at a special event in Copenhagen. It was hosted by our colleagues from Aldre Sagen, an association of older persons' organisations in Denmark. We had a meeting of the Administrative Council, discussed current processes and policies in different countries and the European Union. We also discussed and adopted the strategy of the network for the next 3 years and the AGE Proposal for an EU Action Plan to Combat Ageism. It includes 9 actionable, high-impact flagship initiatives aimed at ending ageism and embedding age equality across EU policy. Grounded in human rights, equality, and solidarity across generations, such a plan would provide the backbone of a future EU Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness.

We spent an intensive working day at the regional office of the World Health Organisation. There we learned about the work and policies of the WHO for older people. We left with the understanding that for all of us it is important to live with dignity, purpose and connection.
