18 May 2012 is the deadline to apply for participation in working meeting on “Early intervention for children with disabilities and their families – better care for the children and prevention of institutionalization”
14.05.2012
Tulip Foundation is organising a working meeting for representatives of NGOs on the theme “Early intervention for children with disabilities and their families – better care for the children and prevention of institutionalisation”. The meeting will take place on 28 – 29 May 2012 in Sofia.

The early intervention for children with disabilities and their families has been first discussed in Bulgaria in the beginning of the 90ties of the last century. The interest about it is growing over the last years. Understanding and good will for the development of “early intervention” services on the side of the state is in place.

The aim of the working meeting is that various models and practices for early intervention applied in Bulgaria are presented and issues about these models are discussed – how the model works, in what environment the services are delivered, what age are the children, what is the role of parents, what specialists are involved.

Representatives of NGOs and institutions who are in charge with services and support for children with special needs and their families will participate.

Prof. David Allen, specialist special education, Portland State University, USA will also take part in the meeting.

The themes that we suggest to be discussed are:

  • Models and practices for early intervention for children with disabilities and their families;

  • Participation of the children and their families in the application of the model;

  • Opportunities for cooperation with local authorities and state institutions aimed at sustainability of early intervention services.

Organsiations that are interested to participate in the meeting are invited to apply by filling the application form for one representative and mail it to info@tulipfoundation.net by 18 May 2012. Places are limited so Tulip Foundation will invite organisations that are currently running early intervention services.
