Fathers Day - 15 June 2014

Millions of people in more than 50 countries around the globe mark father’s Day in the third Sunday of June.

No matter of their cultural, religious and social differences they dedicate the day to the important role played by the father, grandfather, uncle or bigger brother play for bringing up children and their development.

Tulip Foundation and its partner organisations, supported in the frame of Trusting in Children and Families Programme marked the day with different initiatives.
Tulip Foundation and Imaginarium Bulgaria organised in Sofia and Burgas a campaign “A Card for Daddy”. The national military museum opened doors for children and fathers on 14 June to see part of the up-to-date technique of the Bulgarian army, unique transport vehicles and machines, innovative toys and atelier for painting with fingers. Many fathers received a special card from their children. The young artists received awards.
Karin Dom Foundation organised on 14 June in Varna a picnic for fathers and future fathers along with photo contest „A Sunday with Daddy” in FB.

Egida Association brought together fathers and children at the complex for social services in Pazardjik on 13 June and they draw together „My Daddy and me” and planted threes in the park. They also took part at competition with rickshaw for two.

In Stara Zagora Samaritans Association organised a celebration for fathers and children „Daddy and I” with ateliers for cards and crafts. There was a competition as well – running at one leg, Trust me daddy game, tag of rope etc.

The Bulgarian Association of adopted people and adoptive parents organised a picnic at the Sokolski monastery with many various games and entertainments for parents and children in cooperation with IMCA Gabrovo. The fathers were the main organizers. He association also initiated a campaign on FB for advices, messages and stories aimed at promoting positive and active fatherhood.

Children ad fathers from „Friends of the child” Club in Sokolare and Komarevo villages in Biala Slatina municipality visited the city park in neighboring town Kneja. They had a sport competition and musical programme organised by 1 June Association Biala Slatina.

Children and Youth Association in Sofia undertook informational campaigns Daddies+ in 4 neighborhoods – Suhodol, Orlandovci, Liulin and Phlipovci with discussions about the importance of fathers in raising children.

The young volunteers from Opportunity and Protection Association in Haskovo engaged in initiative „My father’s been at my age”. They spoke with their fathers to find out what has been important for them, what did they do years ago. The young people shared their impressions afterwards. The students at sixth grade at Vaptzarov primary school had a lesson on what do they do together with their fathers and what they wand to do with them.

The National Alliance for voluntary Work organised together with the local pastor Stoyan Todorov a gathering for fathers from Stolipinovo neighborhood in Plovdiv on 11 June. The pastor spoke to the young fathers about his experience as a father of 4 children gave them advices how to care for and how to treat their children. He also reminded them to respect their wives and to care after them.

The NGO Club in Targovishte organised in Goliamo Novo village competitions for children and fathers on 17 June with the support of local volunteers. The community club engaged fathers from the Roma community in Vardun, Goliamo Novovillages and Malcho Malchev quarter in Targovishte in a discussion about the role of fathers in raising children earlier in April. The men shared their experience and opinions on father’s role.

Co participation Association organised meetings of young people at the girl’s and boy’s clubs in the Roma quarter Maksuda in Varna to speak about the role of fathers in the family and the relations between women and men.
