During the week around 29 April Tulip Foundation and numerous civil organisations around Bulgaria were organising various initiatives that were based and promote solidarity between generations. They all joined the hundreds of organisations members of the European Youth Forum, European Women’s Lobby, AGE Platform Eurochild, European Antipoverty Network, COFACE and many others.
29 April is marked as a European day of Solidarity between Generations since 2008 with the aim to direct the public attention on the need of change in the policies for elderly people in the EU. Solidarity between generations can play a key role in developing fairer and more sustainable responses to the major economic and social challenges that the EU is facing today. Our society needs to become more inclusive to allow everyone to get involved whatever their age, gender, ethnic origin, skills and ability. Action is also urgently needed to ensure a fairer re-distribution of resources, responsibility and participation and to develop greater cooperation between generations in all social and economic spheres.
In the frame of the campaign Tulip Foundation organised two events in Sofia. Public discussion on “Solidarity between generations” took place on 29 April 2010 at 10 am at Dessislava hall, Grand Hotel Bulgaria and brought together representatives of numerous civil organisations from around the counry, ministries and agencies.
On 30 April Tulip Foundation in cooperation with Club for elderly run by Charity Association Donka Paprikova, 164 Spanish speaking high school and Ubisoft Bulgaria organised a dancing party where elderly people and students played together the games of the new generation.
