The goal of the project was to set up a computer club at Chitalishte “Svetlina – 1928” in Hotantsa village where the children and the older people from the village would have access to information and an attractive place to meet and share knowledge.
A room at the local Chitalishte was renovated and equipped so a computer club was opened which is accessible for everyone in the village. The renovation work was done by volunteers from the village. The headmaster of Primary School “V. Aprilov” Jordan Lakomov delivers computing trainings for children – use of computer and Internet, setting up an e-mail account etc. twice a month. The older people from the Pensioner’s club at Hotantsa village use to visit the computer club once a week and learned how to use Internet, Skype, Facebook with the support of young volunteers. A summer school for youth and older was organized during the summer holidays. The children helped the older people how to work with computer, and the older people taught the children to knit, to sew, to make spindles. The initiative proved to be very useful for both children and older people. Everyone participated with pleasure and had fun so the activities will continue during the summer holidays.
Due to the project activities the children are now visiting the local Chitalishte with pleasure. Most of them are now confident to use computer and gained self-confidence. We helped the older people to use Internet and talk with their relatives living in other places and countries. All visitors at the computer club are now looking for joint initiatives. The children learned a lot about traditions from the older people, who found out that it is not so complicated to use the new technologies.
