The aims of the project were to overcome the isolation of elderly people in Asparuhovo village and to increase the quality of life; to create conditions for broadening of social contacts; to stimulate communication between generations and among elderly people.

Within the frame of the project a Chitalishte premise was renovated and transformed into a centre for information, providing administrative and informational services. 5 young volunteers from the village were helping elderly people to use computer and internet in order to communicate with their closest persons in big cities and abroad. Until now 25 elderly people passed through the training and can communicate with their relatives through internet. The number is getting higher as there are a lot of other people that want also to be trained and we will continue our work after the end of the project.

Health lectures on different themes are taking place several times per month. The mayor of Asparuhovo village, Mr. Hristo Atanasov, who is a surgeon’s assistant by profession, had trained 5 pensioners on how to use blood pressure measurement tools. Now every inhabitant of our village can visit the centre and have his blood pressure measured.

The Centre became a friendly and cosy place for everyday meetings and is regularly visited by both young and elderly people.
