The aim of the project was to provide opportunities for the senior citizens in Petkovo village, municipality of Elin Pelin to get together and to organize by themselves interesting and useful activities to spend their free time, to take part in the social and cultural life of the village. This way they overcome the social isolation. The overall realisation of the activities is a result of an assessment of the needs of the elderly people in the village done with their participation through a questionnaire. 

Appropriate premises were renovated and equipped for the centre so that it turned into a nice and cosy centre for the elderly people from the village. Especially active in the process of identifying and selecting the necessary equipment were the people themselves who had a few dissuasions to decide what they need. 

Along with the everyday meetings of the people from the third age in Petkovo village other activities are also organised in the centre – celebrations of national and personal days, thematic lectures and discussions on issues raised by the elderly people, excursions, contests, medical consultations with specialists that come to the centre regularly. The centre is equipped with computers and printer so that it offers services like inquires, filling and printing of various documents, announcements, invitation etc. 

The popularity of the day centre among the local people and the inhabitants of the neighboring villages as well as the support it receives from the municipality and the local business are signs for the practical necessity of the centre.
