The goal of the project was to ensure 24 hours care for some 25 – 30 people who are terminally ill, not mobile and are cared after in bed. These people need permanent care for their physical and psychological condition. This is hard work that is very important for the society.

During the last year 26 people were accommodated in the hospice for a different peopled of time. Each of them has received personal attention and care according to an individual plan addressing the concrete needs. Each patient receives the necessary care as long time as needed. Most people stay with us between 6 weeks and 1 year.

The everyday care includes personal hygiene, medical procedures, food, conversations, following the physical and emotional condition etc. The team consists of medical doctor, five nurses and about 20 volunteers who do the cooking, the cleaning, the shopping, they bring food to these patients who receive home care, talk with people, read books. There is also a psychologist in the team who provides educational and psychological support. There are regular meetings with relatives of the patients. Students from the Spanish-speaking language school and the Anglo-American school visited the older people in the hospice three times.

A group of medical students got introduced to the care for terminally ill people on the spot during two weeks course. Volunteers took care for the cooking and the variety in the daily life of the patients. Group of young volunteers provided interesting conversations and short musical programmes for an entertainment and emotional comfort. Jovan, the Dutch bakery continued to donate bread. We continue to provide the everyday care for the patients with the support of many individual donors and a few firms.
